Twinges of Tooth Pain

Tooth sensitivity is one of the most common dental complaints. If you feel twinges of pain when you bite into something hot or cold, or when your teeth are exposed to cold air, it could be that the outer layer (enamel) of one or more teeth has worn down or your gums have receded, so that the sensitive layer (dentin) underneath the enamel is exposed. Tooth sensitivity is commonly caused by brushing with too much force or excessive consumption of acidic foods and drinks.

Rx: Talk with your dentist any time you feel tooth pain. While you may be tempted to manage the problem on your own, it’s important to let your dentist examine your teeth first, just in case the underlying cause is something serious.
